| Rick
Roberts didn't take the traditional path to becoming a Children
and Family Pastor! While in High School, he was motivated
most strongly by a love for science, and pursued this as
a career by earning Bachelors, Masters and Ph.D. degrees
in the field of Microbiology and Molecular Biology, then
completing a postdoctoral research program at Stanford University.
However, during these 16 years of training, God was working
behind the scenes on a different plan. In 1985, Rick married
Lori, who has a love for children that guided her to obtain
two degrees in elementary education. Lori's involvement with
children included church settings, and Rick found early in
their relationship that he also enjoyed spending time teaching
kids. Rick began his involvement as a teacher's helper (to
Lori) in 1983, and the joy and satisfaction he found with
children grew as he took on more volunteer responsibilities
with kids over the years.
Early in 1996, as Rick was exploring job opportunities in
Molecular Biology, the pastor of the church they were attending
in California (Trinity Church of Sunnyvale) approached him
about taking a position as the full time Children's Pastor.
Even though the thought of such a radical career change was
intimidating, Rick and Lori sought God's direction in prayer,
and it became clear to them that it indeed was God's plan
for Rick to take the position. The big change officially
occurred in June of 1996, and ever since Rick has felt certain
that it was the right thing to do.
Since 1996, Rick and Lori worked together in a successful
ministry at Trinity Church for 7 years, and in July 2003
they followed God's leading to a new ministry at Kenosha
Bible Church, where Rick has the role of Pastor of Children
and Family Ministries. Both they and their three children
look forward to seeing what God has in store for them here!
